03 — Overview

What goes into a shed slab

Shed, garage, carport, garden studio or entertaining area — we pour slabs sized and reinforced for whatever is going on top. Thickness, edge beams and fall for drainage are all set to suit the structure and the site rather than a one-size guess.

Keep it a simple plain grey slab, or get creative: the full decorative colour and pattern range is available on shed slabs too, which is well worth considering if the slab is visible from the house.

Questions

Shed slab questions, answered

More in the concreting FAQ and guides.

How thick should a shed slab be?

Shed and garage slabs are commonly 100 mm thick with steel mesh and thickened edge beams where the frame sits. The shed’s engineering sets the hold-down requirements, so we pour to those. See the slab thickness guide.

Do I need approval for a shed?

Many sheds need building approval depending on their size, height and position on the block. Check with a private certifier or Sunshine Coast Council before you order the shed and the slab.

How soon can the shed go up on a new slab?

Usually after a few days of curing, but follow your shed supplier’s and engineer’s guidance. Concrete keeps gaining strength and reaches its design strength at around 28 days.
